The Sako M39, a modified variant of the Mosin-Nagant rifle, originated from Finland during World War II. Finland procured the Mosin-Nagant rifles from Russia and modified them to better suit their requirements, resulting in the acclaimed M39 model. This particular model, manufactured in 1943, is chambered for the 7.62x54R caliber−a common military round in Russia and Eastern Europe. The rifle features a blued finish, which is a type of firearm finish for protection and aesthetics, and has a bolt-action mechanism, known for its reliability and accuracy. With its 5-round capacity, the M39 was widely used by the Finnish army, marking its place in the history of wartime firearms.
Despite showing signs of extensive use and wear, including a heavy fracture on the stock and a missing screw on the metal buttplate, the bore of this rifle remains in good condition. The metal is tarnished and there is minor fouling between the rifling, but the barrel is still bright and shiny. Unfortunately, the front sight post is missing and the trigger is sticky due to grime and tarnish.
The Sako M39 Mosin-Nagant is a distinctive firearm that blends history, performance, and exceptional built quality. It's an attractive addition to any firearms enthusiast's collection!
