Ruger Mini-14 K-Mini-14/20 GB-F Stainless Folding-Stock .223 Rem. Pre-Ban Semi-Automatic Rifle (1983)
This 1983 Ruger Mini-14 K-Mini-14/20 GB-F is a factory-original, pre-ban folding-stock carbine built before the 1994 Assault-Weapons Ban. It combines Ruger’s matte stainless steel construction with the rare side-folding tubular stock and flash suppressor—features that were later prohibited for civilian sale. Collectors value this configuration for its scarcity, its pop-culture notoriety, and its rugged stainless finish.

The GB-F variant is one of the scarcest Mini-14 submodels, identified by its folding stock (F) and government-barrel (GB) features—flash suppressor and protected front sight. These items were deleted from post-ban production, making original examples highly sought after.
This rifle is built entirely from Ruger investment-cast stainless steel, including the complex hinge mechanism. The matte finish resists corrosion and wear, particularly valuable for a folding design intended for field carry.
The 18.5 inch, thin-profile stainless barrel is capped with the correct factory flash suppressor. Its early 1:10 RH twist is optimized for 55-grain M193-spec ammunition, predating Ruger’s later shift to 1:7 twist.
A ventilated polymer handguard keeps weight down and stays cool under sustained fire. The protected blade front sight and adjustable ghost-ring rear sight provide a robust, field-ready iron-sight picture, while the installed side-mount base lets the new owner add optics without altering the receiver.
This 184-series serial number places production in 1983, confirming its pre-ban status. The combination of folding stock, stainless steel, and complete magazine package makes this Mini-14 a standout piece for both shooters and collectors.
