J. Stevens Model 1915 Favorite No. 27 .22 LR Takedown Single-Shot Rifle — Octagon Barrel, Circa 1916-1919
This Model 1915 Favorite No. 27 from J. Stevens Arms Company is a lightweight, takedown single-shot rifle chambered in .22 LR and built between 1916 and 1919. It features a 24-inch full-length octagon barrel, a blued falling-block action, and straight-grained walnut furniture. The low three-digit “C” serial prefix places it in the desirable early post-Westinghouse, pre-Savage transition period, adding collector appeal to this classic American “boys’ rifle.”

What’s Included
- J. Stevens Model 1915 Favorite No. 27 single-shot rifle as described
Produced between 1915 and 1935, the Model 1915 Favorite refined Stevens’ popular earlier Favorite line with stronger metallurgy suited for smokeless .22 LR ammunition. The “C” prefix serial with low three-digit number indicates an early example, lacking the later Savage “SVG” proof, and retains the original Stevens trade-mark roll markings on the receiver top and “MODEL 1915” on the upper tang.
Its 24-inch blued octagon barrel provides classic lines and balances the rifle at just 4.5 pounds, making it easy to handle for youths and adults alike. The takedown screw ahead of the lever pivot allows quick separation of barrel and receiver for transport or cleaning.
The rifle retains its factory dovetail plain nickel-silver blade front sight and a buckhorn rear sight; the tang is drilled and tapped for an optional Lyman or Stevens aperture sight, giving collectors the option to return it to a period-correct configuration.
Straight-grained American black-walnut stock and fore-end, paired with a black-composition Stevens buttplate, complete the utilitarian yet attractive profile that has made the Favorite series enduringly popular among rimfire enthusiasts and collectors.
