Smith & Wesson Model 59 1st Generation 9mm Luger, 14-Round, Blued, 1981 U.S. Production
This first-generation Smith & Wesson Model 59 represents one of the pistols that launched the high-capacity “Wonder-Nine” movement in the United States. Built in 1981 and made entirely in the USA, it combines a lightweight aluminum-alloy frame with a 14-round double-stack magazine, giving shooters service-pistol capacity in a 30-ounce package. Its double-action/single-action trigger, slide-mounted safety/decocker, and drift-adjustable rear sight made it a forward-thinking option for law enforcement and civilian shooters alike.

What’s Included
- Smith & Wesson Model 59 pistol
- 2 factory 14-round steel magazines
The Model 59 was produced from 1971 to 1982, and this example falls within the A655001–A745000 serial block attributed to calendar-year 1981. That places it near the end of first-generation production, retaining the classic finely-serrated slide and blued finish.
An aluminum-alloy frame keeps weight to roughly 30 oz, easing carry without sacrificing durability. The rounded-spur hammer, slide-mounted safety/decocker, and DA/SA trigger linkage give the shooter versatile control for both holstered duty and range work.
The 14-round steel magazines supplied here interchange with later 59-series models, adding practical value for anyone who already owns or plans to own other Smith & Wesson double-stack 9 mms.
Fixed sights consist of a serrated front ramp and a drift-adjustable rear notch, offering a clear, snag-free sight picture. The black checkered Delrin grips with S&W medallions complete the classic early-1980s look.
