Inland M1 Carbine M1A1 Paratrooper Type I, .30 Carbine, 1943 WWII Production, Folding Wire Stock, Parkerized
This Inland M1 Carbine M1A1 is an early Type I paratrooper, barrel dated February 1943—classic Airborne spec from the only maker of the M1A1 (Inland, General Motors). It wears the desirable early features: folding wire stock with leather cheek pad, high-wood M1A1 stock by Overton with the proper “OI” marking, two-rivet walnut handguard, and the narrow Type I barrel band without a bayonet lug. The RIA/EB cartouche indicates a post-war Rock Island Arsenal inspection (Inspector Elmer Bjerke), adding documented service history; despite that arsenal touchpoint, this example presents in a correct early configuration, and includes one 15-round and one 30-round magazine.

Inland produced approximately 140,000 M1A1 carbines from 1942 to 1944, and this example aligns with early wartime production. The 2-43 barrel date, Parkerized finish, and correct US markings ground it firmly in its WWII context.
Type I configuration details are present where specified: the folding wire stock with leather cheek pad locks open and closed, the handguard is the two-rivet walnut pattern, and the carbine retains early hardware such as the push-button safety and push-button magazine release, as well as the Type I narrow barrel band without a bayonet lug.
Markings include a circled P proof on the grip, an “OI” Overton stock marking, and the RIA/EB Rock Island Arsenal post-war rebuild stamp. These features document the carbine’s service life and subsequent arsenal handling.
The rifle has the wing-protected front blade (Type I). The action is the standard M1 Carbine system: semi-automatic, gas-operated with a short-stroke piston and rotating bolt.
Dimensions and handling mirror the pattern: 18 in barrel, 13.0 in length of pull, and approximately 35.5 in overall length extended (about 25 in folded). Weight is about 5.7 lb. It is chambered in .30 Carbine and includes both a 15-round and a 30-round magazine.
