The pre-1983 configuration stands out with its 22 inch barrel and 18+1 capacity tubular magazine. The barrel uses Marlin Micro-Groove rifling with a 1:16 right-hand twist, optimized for .22 LR.
The receiver is aluminum alloy with a black anodized finish and includes 3/8 inch rimfire dovetail grooves for mounting optics. Operation is semi-automatic blowback with a right-side, curved, serrated charging handle and a cross-bolt safety. The barrel and other steel components wear a blued finish.
The stock is hardwood (birch) with a satin lacquer finish. It includes pressed checkering on the forend and pistol grip, a straight comb, the Glenfield squirrel motif, and a black composite butt-plate. Length of pull is 13.75 inches.
Sights are open: a ramped front post with protective side ears (hood absent) and an elevator-adjustable rear open leaf with a serrated blade. The receiver grooves allow easy addition of a rimfire scope if desired.
Built in North Haven, Connecticut in 1972, this full-size rifle has an overall length of approximately 40.5 inches and a weight of about 5.5 pounds, pairing classic Glenfield styling with the long-barrel, high-capacity tube of early Model 60 production.
