WWII Nagoya Arsenal Type 38 Sporterized Bolt-Action Rifle, 6.5-257 Roberts, 24-Inch Barrel
This Nagoya Arsenal Type 38 started life as an Imperial Japanese service rifle and later underwent a full sporter conversion. It now features a shortened 24-inch barrel, a cut-down finger-groove stock, and a rechambering to 6.5-257 Roberts. The receiver still carries the intact chrysanthemum crest and “三八式” markings, giving collectors authentic wartime provenance while the modified configuration offers a unique project platform.

What’s Included
- Nagoya Arsenal Type 38 sporterized bolt-action rifle (incomplete, as described)
Built on the strong Arisaka Type 38 action, this rifle retains its original chrome-vanadium steel receiver, complete with dust-cover rails and two gas-vent holes for added safety. The Imperial chrysanthemum crest remains sharply struck, a detail often removed on surrendered rifles, adding collector interest.
The barrel was professionally shortened to 24 inches and fitted with a silver-soldered ramp front sight with integral blade. The military hand-guard, barrel bands, and bayonet lug were removed during the sporter conversion to reduce weight and streamline handling.
The stock was cut to a sporter fore-end yet keeps the original finger-groove profile. An oil/urushi finish preserves the wood while providing a traditional appearance. Length of pull measures a comfortable 13 inches.
Originally chambered in 6.5×50 Arisaka, the action was rechambered to 6.5-257 Roberts, giving shooters access to readily available brass and bullets once the necessary parts are sourced. Flag-style safety knob and original trigger remain in place.
This rifle is best suited for collectors seeking a chrysanthemum-marked Type 38 project or shooters who want to complete a historic sporter build. It needs parts and professional gunsmith attention before any attempt at firing.
