Winchester Model 37 “Steelbilt” 12 Gauge Single-Shot Shotgun, 32" Full-Choke Barrel
Winchester’s Model 37 Steelbilt is a classic American single-shot that combines rugged stamped-steel construction with the simplicity of a break-action design. This example features the less common 32" full-choke barrel, providing tight patterns for distance shooting. Built sometime between 1936 and 1963 and produced without a serial number, it retains the characteristic blued finish and includes an aftermarket Pachmayr “White Line” recoil pad for improved comfort.

The stamped-steel “Steelbilt” receiver keeps weight reasonable while maintaining strength, a design choice that set the Model 37 apart in its day. Winchester also equipped this model with an automatic ejector, immediately clearing the spent hull when the action is opened.
The 32" barrel carries a fixed Full choke, making this shotgun well-suited for waterfowl, turkey, or trap shooting where tighter shot patterns are valuable. A single brass bead up front provides a simple, quick sight picture.
An exposed hammer offers straightforward manual control of the firing mechanism, and the break-action design ensures reliable operation with virtually any 2 3/4" 12-gauge load.
The aftermarket Pachmayr recoil pad shortens felt recoil and sets the length of pull at 13.75", balancing shootability with the shotgun’s original hardwood stock and matching fore-end.
During World War II, Model 37s saw service as training guns for the National Guard, underscoring their durability and ease of use. Collectors value this history, while shooters appreciate a straightforward field gun that still performs.
