Savage Arms Model 65 .22 S/L/LR Bolt-Action Rifle, 20" Barrel (1969–1973 Production)
Produced for only a short run between 1969 and 1973, the Savage Model 65 offers classic American rimfire styling with a full-size walnut stock and carbon-steel construction. This example retains its original 20-inch barrel, open iron sights, and blued finish, matching the configuration sold under both the Savage and Sears 101.538840 banners. Its lack of an external serial number is correct for U.S. rimfire rifles made before the 1968 Gun Control Act took effect.

What’s Included
- Savage Arms Model 65 bolt-action rifle (magazine not included)
The Model 65 was designed to chamber .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle cartridges, giving shooters flexibility at the range or in the field. Without its magazine, the rifle currently operates as a single-shot, but replacement 5- or 10-round detachable magazines remain available on the aftermarket.
Its 20-inch carbon-steel barrel is paired with a drift-pinned ramp front sight and an elevator-adjustable rear leaf, offering a familiar sight picture for traditional rimfire shooting. The factory blued finish shows heavy patina today, yet the underlying steel remains serviceable for restoration or utilitarian use.
The walnut stock retains its original oil finish, providing a sturdy, full-size platform that balances well despite the rifle’s light weight. Because the Model 65 was never produced in large numbers, surviving examples—especially those from the brief 1969-1973 window—hold interest for collectors of Savage rimfires and Sears-branded variants alike.
