Winchester Model 50 Field Grade 20 Gauge Semi-Automatic Shotgun, 28" Barrel, 1957
Manufactured in 1957, this Winchester Model 50 Field Grade pairs the company’s first autoloading shotgun design with a 20 gauge chambered for 2 3/4" shells. Designed by David “Carbine” Williams, the Model 50 uses a distinctive fixed-barrel, floating-chamber short-recoil system and represents the last all-machined-steel Winchester shotgun line produced before the post-1964 cost reductions. This example retains its factory 28" Winchester Proof Steel barrel with a fixed full choke and adds an aftermarket ventilated recoil pad for a 14.25" length of pull.

What’s Included
- Winchester Model 50 Field Grade 20 Gauge shotgun with 28" plain barrel and aftermarket ventilated recoil pad
The Model 50’s fixed-barrel, short-recoil action was engineered to reduce felt recoil and maintain consistent point-of-impact shot after shot. The machined steel receiver and Winchester Proof Steel barrel highlight the company’s pre-1964 commitment to robust construction.
Its 28" plain barrel is paired with a factory fixed full choke, offering tight patterns ideal for upland birds or longer-range clay targets. A single brass bead front sight provides a simple, unobstructed sight picture.
The 2-plus-1 capacity meets migratory bird regulations without modification, and the reliable inertia-assisted operating system is tuned for standard 2 3/4" 20 gauge loads.
Hand-cut diamond checkering on the walnut stock and fore-end gives a positive grip, while the added ventilated recoil pad lengthens the stock to 14.25" and softens shoulder impact.
