Remington Model 17A 20 Gauge Pump Shotgun – 28" Full Choke, 2 3/4" Chamber, 1920s Takedown
The Remington Model 17A is a lightweight 20-gauge pump shotgun designed by John M. Browning and produced between 1921 and 1933. This mid-production example carries serial number 34826 and retains its original 28-inch barrel with a fixed FULL choke and 2 3/4-inch chamber. Its takedown, bottom-loading, and bottom-ejecting action heavily influenced later classics such as the Ithaca 37 and Remington 31, making this Model 17A both collectible and historically notable.

What’s Included
- Remington Model 17A 20 Gauge pump-action shotgun
This shotgun weighs approximately 5.75 lb, offering quick handling in the field and at the range. The 28-inch carbon-steel barrel wears a single brass bead and a fixed FULL choke, giving tight patterns for upland game or trap work.
The takedown design allows the barrel and magazine assembly to detach easily from the receiver for compact transport or maintenance. Bottom loading and bottom ejection keep fired hulls out of the shooter’s line of sight and make the gun friendly to both right- and left-handed users.
Remington’s Standard Grade “A” configuration pairs blued carbon-steel metalwork with plain oil-finished walnut furniture. A semi-pistol-grip buttstock and ribbed walnut slide-handle provide a classic 1920s profile and secure purchase.
An oval “B.E.” inspector stamp is present on the barrel root, adding a period-correct detail for collectors tracking Remington manufacturing marks of the era.
