Built in 1958 near the end of L46 production, it features the integral 17 mm Sako dovetail scope base, controlled-round feed, and classic Finnish craftsmanship that make these rifles sought after by varmint shooters and collectors alike.

What’s Included
- Sako L46 Riihimäki Heavy Barrel Varmint rifle
- One 3-round detachable magazine
Produced in Sako’s Riihimäki factory, this rifle represents one of the first commercial platforms chambered in .222 Remington, a cartridge that went on to dominate benchrest and varmint circles for decades. Serial number 38614 places production in 1958, shortly before Sako transitioned to the L461 action, giving this example added historical interest.
The heavy, 23.6-inch barrel with a 1:14 twist stabilizes light .22-caliber projectiles for precise varmint work. Its high-polish blued finish remains deep and consistent, complementing the equally well-finished steel receiver that carries Finnish proof marks and the Riihimäki roll stamp.
Stock craftsmanship is classic Sako: a Monte Carlo walnut stock with cheek-piece, skip-line checkering, and an ebony forend tip. The steel butt-plate bears the Sako cog-wheel logo, a distinctive touch found on early models.
Sighting equipment includes a hooded ramp front sight and the factory-cut integral 17 mm dovetail, ready to accept Sako rings without additional bases. The controlled-round feed action cycles from a 3-round detachable magazine, offering smooth, reliable chambering.
