Ruger Mini-14 182-Series .223 Rem Stainless Pre-Ban Semi-Auto Rifle, Choate Pistol-Grip Stock, 18" Threaded Barrel
Manufactured in 1981, this early 182-series Ruger Mini-14 pairs pre-ban collectability with uncommon stainless-steel construction. A Choate Tool Corp. fixed pistol-grip stock and a threaded 18" barrel capped by a screw-on birdcage flash suppressor give the classic Mini-14 platform a modern, practical edge while preserving its desirable pre-Ranch features.

This 182-series Mini-14 predates Ruger’s Ranch Rifle upgrade, so the receiver lacks integral scope mounts, retaining the original streamlined profile valued by collectors. The serial number (182-610xx) confirms 1981 production, making it fully exempt from the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban.
The stainless receiver and barrel were uncommon among semi-automatic .223 carbines of the era, offering excellent corrosion resistance without adding significant weight. Ruger’s proven short-stroke, fixed-piston operating system—derived from the M1 Garand—delivers smooth cycling and reliable function with a wide range of .223 Rem loads.
Choate’s one-piece pistol-grip stock improves handling and control while maintaining a 13.75" length of pull suitable for most shooters. Integrated sling-swivel studs support field carry and practical use.
The 18" threaded barrel is factory stainless and now wears a removable birdcage flash suppressor, adding muzzle control and compatibility with other 1/2-28 accessories. Standard iron sights include a wing-protected post up front and an adjustable aperture rear, giving the shooter a familiar, battle-proven sight picture.
