Remington Model 721A Standard Grade .270 Win Bolt-Action Rifle with Receiver Peep Sight
Produced during the pioneering years of Remington’s post-war sporting line, this Model 721A pairs the stout “three rings of steel” receiver that later inspired the Model 700 with the flat-shooting .270 Winchester cartridge. Its aftermarket receiver-mounted aperture sight adds precise, adjustable iron-sight capability, making this rifle a practical hunter and an interesting piece for fans of early Walker designs.

What’s Included
- Remington Model 721A Standard Grade bolt-action rifle, .270 Win, 24" barrel
- Receiver-mounted aperture peep rear sight (installed)
Introduced in 1948, the Model 721 was Remington’s first sporting rifle to use Merle “Mike” Walker’s cylindrical receiver and dual-opposed locking lugs. The design became famous for its strength, earning the “three rings of steel” nickname that later defined the Model 700.
This example falls within the early 400,000 serial number range and retains its original 24-inch carbon-steel barrel. The 6-groove right-hand twist complements the .270 Winchester’s flat trajectory, and the bore remains in excellent condition, indicating crisp internal geometry despite exterior wear.
The rifle’s walnut stock features a straight comb, uncheckered panels, and factory sling swivel studs. While showing honest field wear, it remains structurally sound and maintains correct geometry for consistent shoulder alignment.
An aftermarket receiver-mounted aperture peep sight replaces the factory rear, offering a longer sight radius and finer elevation adjustments. Up front, the serrated ramp base and gold-tone bead provide an easy-to-acquire aiming point in varied lighting.
