Remington Model 742 Woodsmaster .30-06 Semi-Automatic Rifle, Early 1960s Production, 22" Barrel

This early-production example, built within the initial 1960-63 serial block, offers the classic 22-inch barrel, walnut stock set, and factory-drilled receiver that helped the 742 earn its strong following among whitetail hunters and collectors alike.

What’s Included
- Remington Model 742 Woodsmaster rifle (.30-06)
- One factory 4-round detachable steel magazine
This rifle retains its original 22-inch carbon-steel barrel, supported by the rifle's gas block and fore-end support ring. The gas-operated action shares design lineage with Remington’s 1100 shotgun, giving the 742 smooth cycling under a range of conditions.
Early 742 receivers, like this one, left the factory drilled and tapped for scopes—a forward-thinking feature in the early 1960s that simplified mounting modern optics without gunsmith work.
The A-grade walnut furniture includes a hand-checkered fore-end with longitudinal grooves and a straight-grained buttstock cut for a 13.25-inch length of pull. Both pieces retain their original finish, matching the rifle’s blued metalwork.
Iron sights remain in place: a ramped front with brass bead and an adjustable folding-leaf rear. Together with the drilled receiver, they offer versatile sighting options for different hunting environments.
