Built in 1986 to honor the 150th anniversary of Texas independence, this Winchester Model 94 Texas Sesquicentennial Commemorative Carbine combines collectible status with authentic Winchester craftsmanship. One of only 15,000 produced, it is the first factory Model 94 to wear an 18.5-inch barrel and the first commemorative chambered in .38-55 Win. This commemorative carbine is easily recognized by its gold-plated alloy receiver, barrel bands, and plaques, all contrasting with a deep blued Winchester Proof Steel barrel. The receiver displays factory roll engraving of wagon-train and frontier motifs, while the barrel bears a gold inlaid anniversary marking and a matching serial prefix “TEX.” A blued saddle ring sits on the left receiver wall, reinforcing the carbine’s classic Western profile.
The 18.5-inch round barrel, cut with a 1:18 right-hand twist, delivers the historical .38-55 Win. chambering—an homage to the cartridge that helped build Winchester’s reputation. Iron sights include an unhooded blade front and a semi-buckhorn elevator rear, preserving the traditional sight picture favored by many lever-gun enthusiasts.
Winchester fitted this carbine with straight-grip walnut furniture featuring cut checkering in a fleur-de-lis pattern. A gold-medallion inlay on the right buttstock and a 13.5-inch length of pull complete the commemorative touches while maintaining everyday handling ergonomics.
Factory proof marks on the barrel confirm Winchester Proof Steel construction. The carbine’s late-1980s production places it squarely in the era when Winchester revived historic chamberings and special editions for collectors seeking both authenticity and limited availability.
