H&R Model 48 Topper .410 Bore Single-Shot Shotgun – Canadian 1950s CP-Prefix, 22.5" Full-Choke Barrel
Made in Drummondville, Quebec during the late 1950s, this Canadian-marked H&R Model 48 Topper offers the lightweight handling and simple reliability that made the Topper series popular for generations. The CP serial prefix, early self-adjusting barrel latch, and factory roll-marking add period-correct collector interest, while the 22.5-inch full-choke barrel and 3-inch chamber give it practical field utility in the .410 bore.

What’s Included
- Harrington & Richardson Model 48 Topper .410 single-shot shotgun
This Topper is a Canadian production variant stamped “H & R PROOF TESTED,” a marking specific to the Drummondville facility. The CP-prefix serial places it near the end of Model 48 production, making it one of the last Canadian-made examples before the Model 58 replaced the line.
The shotgun retains its original 22.5-inch blued carbon-steel barrel with a fixed full choke and a 3-inch chamber, offering tight patterns out of the .410 bore. A brass bead front sight provides a simple, fast aiming reference.
H&R’s break-action design features an exposed rebounding hammer and a single mechanical trigger. The early self-adjusting barrel latch aids consistent lock-up, contributing to the gun’s reputation for durability.
The oil-finished walnut stock and semi-beavertail forend show honest field wear and remain structurally sound. An aftermarket ventilated recoil pad extends the length of pull to 14.75 inches and softens felt recoil from 3-inch .410 shells.
