This Luger is chamber-dated “41,” confirming its 1941 manufacture at Mauser-Werke A.G. in Oberndorf. The “byf” factory code and Waffenamt eagle/655 acceptance marks illustrate its documented military provenance during the early years of Mauser’s wartime production.
The pistol retains its original salt-blued carbon-steel frame, receiver, and 3.9-inch barrel. The finish remains even, with honest handling wear that aligns with its service history. Checkered walnut grips provide a secure hold and exhibit sharp patterning with mild smoothing on the high points.
Mechanically, the short-recoil, toggle-locked action cycles smoothly, aided by the knurled toggle knobs characteristic of the design. The manual safety lever engages positively, and the rear notch and fixed blade front sights remain crisp, offering the classic sight picture associated with the P.08.
A lanyard loop on the backstrap confirms its military configuration, while matching-numbered internal parts (“24” suffix) underscore its collectible status. Overall, this byf 41 Luger represents a solid, numbers-matching sidearm from a pivotal year in WWII production.
