Colt introduced the Model 2000 to bring modern materials and engineering to its handgun line. The glass-filled polymer frame keeps weight manageable while maintaining a solid feel, and the PF-prefix serial number confirms this original polymer configuration.
The heart of the pistol is its 4.5-inch spiral-fluted, carbon-steel barrel that locks and unlocks via a left-hand 1:14-inch rotating system. Combined with a short-recoil, striker-fired, double-action-only mechanism, it delivers consistent lockup and simple maintenance.
An ambidextrous magazine release and passive firing-pin block add practical safety and left-hand usability. Fixed three-dot sights provide a clear sight picture, while rear vertical serrations on the matte-blue slide aid manipulation.
The DAO trigger breaks at approximately 12 lb, and the pistol feeds from a 15-round double-stack magazine, giving full-size service capacity in a design that predates many later polymer offerings.
