Remington Sportsman 58 16 Gauge Semi-Automatic Shotgun, 28" Modified Choke, Factory Engraved (1962)
Built in 1962, this Remington Sportsman 58 represents the first generation of Remington’s gas-operated semi-auto shotguns. Chambered in the now-scarce 16 gauge and dressed in factory field-scene engraving, it combines collectibility with practical field features like a 28-inch plain barrel and fixed Modified choke. An adjustable H/L gas-regulator cap and a 2+1 forward gas system distinguish it from later models, making this example a notable piece for collectors and hunters who appreciate early semi-auto design.

What’s Included
- Remington Sportsman 58 16 Gauge semi-automatic shotgun
The Sportsman 58 was Remington’s first gas-operated shotgun, preceding the Model 1100 by several years. Its forward gas system limits capacity to 2+1 rounds, yet delivers smooth operation and noticeably reduced recoil for a 16 gauge.
This example retains its blued finish and features factory engraving on the receiver—a classic hunting scene with dogs and game birds that adds visual appeal without affecting field durability.
The 28-inch barrel is fitted with a fixed Modified choke, giving balanced shot patterns for upland birds or small game. A brass bead front sight keeps the sight picture simple and fast.
Checkered walnut stock and forend provide a secure grip, and the 14-inch length of pull suits most adult shooters. The adjustable H/L gas-regulator cap lets the user fine-tune cycling based on load strength, a forward-thinking feature for its era.
