Browning Superposed Grade I 20 Gauge Over/Under Shotgun – 28" Vent Rib, Belgian-Made, 1953 Production
Produced in 1953, this 20 gauge Browning Superposed Grade I pairs John M. Browning’s final long-gun design with FN’s pre-salt Belgian workmanship. Fewer than 1,400 were built in this gauge that year, making this round-knob, long-tang example a scarce find for shooters and collectors alike. Its factory scroll and rosette engraving, Special Steel vent-rib barrels, and hand-cut diamond checkering reflect the classic post-war Superposed style.

What’s Included
- Browning Superposed Grade I 20 Gauge over/under shotgun
This shotgun carries serial number 5792 within the 1953 20 gauge range, confirming its early post-war production. Belgian Liege proof marks and the MADE IN BELGIUM barrel legend further authenticate its origin.
The 28" Special Steel barrels feature a ventilated rib topped with a front bead and mid bead, promoting fast target acquisition. Fixed Improved Modified (upper) and Improved Cylinder (lower) chokes, paired with a 2 ¾" chamber, provide a versatile pattern for field or range use.
A single selective trigger, automatic top-tang safety, and gloss-blued steel receiver form a control set that remains intuitive and reliable. The action’s long-tang, round-knob pistol-grip walnut stock delivers a 14.0" length of pull and showcases crisp hand-cut checkering under a clear gloss finish.
Factory Grade I engraving—scrolls framing rosettes—adds tasteful ornamentation without obscuring the shotgun’s clean lines. Combined with its limited 1953 20 gauge production, this Superposed stands out as a collectible yet shootable classic.
