Smith & Wesson K-38 Combat Masterpiece Pre-Model 15, 4" .38 Special, 1956 Production
Built in 1956, this four-screw K-frame Combat Masterpiece represents the last configuration before Smith & Wesson transitioned to the stamped Model 15 designation. The revolver retains its original pinned, tapered 4-inch barrel, color-case-hardened wide-spur hammer, and combat-width grooved trigger, now outfitted with aftermarket black rubber finger-groove stocks for a secure hold. Its high-polish blued finish, fully adjustable sights, and double-action/single-action operation made it a preferred sidearm for law enforcement and the U.S. Air Force during the 1950s.

What’s Included
- Smith & Wesson K-38 Combat Masterpiece revolver with aftermarket black rubber finger-groove grips (installed)
This K-38 uses Smith & Wesson’s robust K-frame, drilled and tapped with four screws—a feature dropped after 1957—adding collector appeal to this already desirable revolver.
The 4-inch carbon-steel barrel is factory pinned and fitted with a serrated Baughman ramp front sight that pairs with a micrometer adjustable rear sight for precise point-of-aim adjustments.
Forged internals include the case-hardened, wide-spur hammer and a grooved combat-width trigger that provide smooth double-action pull and crisp single-action breaks.
An even, high-polish blued finish covers the frame, cylinder, and barrel, complementing the period-correct carbon-steel construction that earned the Combat Masterpiece its reputation for durability.
While the original checkered walnut grips have been replaced with finger-groove rubber stocks, the change yields improved purchase while preserving the revolver’s classic lines.
