FN America SCAR 17S 7.62×51 NATO Semi-Automatic Rifle | Pre-NRCH, Columbia SC Build, 16.25-Inch Chrome-Lined Barrel
The FN SCAR 17S is FN America’s flagship 7.62×51 NATO battle rifle, and this example stands out as a U.S.-made, pre-NRCH model with the original reciprocating charging handle. Built in Columbia, South Carolina, it features the uncommon “MULTI-CALIBER” roll mark and a hard-anodized, monolithic upper receiver. A cold-hammer-forged, chrome-lined CMV barrel, factory 3-port compensator, and fully ambidextrous controls make this rifle attractive to shooters and collectors alike.

This SCAR 17S retains the pre-NRCH reciprocating charging handle and quick-detach barrel interface, preserving the original design favored by many enthusiasts. The monolithic aluminum upper receiver provides a full-length, numbered Picatinny rail for optics, with additional 3, 6, and 9 o’clock accessory rails molded into the polymer handguard.
The 16.25-inch CMV steel barrel is cold-hammer-forged, chrome-lined, and free-floating for durability and consistent accuracy. It is threaded 5/8-24 TPI and wears FN’s factory-installed 3-port compensator for effective recoil mitigation.
FN’s side-folding, telescoping stock offers six-position length adjustment, a polymer cheek piece, and a 14.25-inch length of pull. Combined with the rifle’s ambidextrous safety/selector and magazine release, the SCAR 17S adapts easily to a wide range of shooters and shooting positions.
The Columbia, SC roll mark confirms domestic manufacture, and the barrel is magnetic-particle-inspected and marked “MP” for quality assurance. All controls, including the charging handle, remain in their original configuration—this is not the later NRCH variant—adding collector appeal for those seeking the classic SCAR operating feel.
