The Browning Auto-5 Sweet Sixteen combines the legendary long-recoil action of John M. Browning’s “hump-back” design with a lightweight receiver scaled to 20-gauge dimensions. Built in 1956 at Fabrique Nationale in Belgium, this example retains its factory scroll engraving, solid rib 28" barrel, and fixed Modified choke. Collectors prize these mid-1950s Sweet Sixteens for their balance, smooth cycling, and classic FN craftsmanship.

What’s Included
- Browning Auto-5 Sweet Sixteen 16 Gauge shotgun
Produced under serial prefix “S64865”, this Sweet Sixteen dates to 1956 and carries Belgian proof marks on the barrel. The “Sweet Sixteen” and “BROWNING” script are factory roll-marked within elegant scrollwork on the forged steel receiver, highlighting its collectible status.
The 28" “Special Steel” barrel is topped by a solid matted rib and a single steel front bead, giving a clear sight picture. A fixed Modified choke and 2 ¾" chamber make it well-suited for classic upland loads.
True to the Sweet Sixteen formula, the receiver is the same size as the 20-gauge Auto-5, keeping weight down while preserving the unmistakable Auto-5 profile. The long-recoil mechanism cycles 16-gauge shells smoothly, with the tubular magazine currently limited to 2+1 rounds by a plug.
The checkered walnut stock offers a 14.25" length of pull and ends in a steel butt-plate—features that maintain the period-correct look and feel. Overall, this Belgian-made Sweet Sixteen delivers the authentic mid-century Browning experience collectors seek.
