Smith & Wesson Model 916A 12 Gauge Pump-Action Shotgun, 28" Modified Choke, 5+1
This Smith & Wesson Model 916A is a full-size, American-made pump shotgun produced during the company’s short-lived in-house shotgun program of the 1970s. Built on carbon-steel components with a matte blued finish and walnut furniture, it features a 28-inch plain barrel with a fixed Modified choke and a 2 3/4" chamber. Collectors and shooters alike will note its uncommon single action-bar design and tang-mounted safety that set it apart from many contemporary pumps.

What’s Included
- Smith & Wesson Model 916A 12 Gauge pump-action shotgun
Manufactured between 1973 and 1980, the Model 916A represents Smith & Wesson’s effort to enter the pump-action market using tooling acquired from Noble. The design retains the single action bar of the original Noble Model 66, giving the gun a slimmer profile while still cycling reliably.
The 28-inch carbon-steel barrel is paired with a fixed Modified choke, offering a versatile pattern for upland game or clay targets. A brass bead front sight provides a clear, fast reference point without the distraction of a rib.
The receiver, barrel, and magazine tube wear a matte blued finish that contrasts nicely with the plain walnut stock and matching slide-handle. The stock’s semi-pistol grip aids control without adding bulk, and a tang-mounted manual safety is easy to reach with either hand.
Chambered for 2 3/4" shells and feeding from a 5-shot tubular magazine, the Model 916A balances capacity with manageable weight in the field. At full length, it remains a classic representation of 1970s American shotgun engineering backed by Smith & Wesson branding.
