Ruger Mark I Target .22 LR Semi-Auto Pistol, 6.875" Heavy Tapered Barrel, 1960 Production with Reflex Sight
This early-production Ruger Mark I Target pairs the classic 6 ⅞-inch heavy tapered barrel with a 1960 no-prefix serial, alloy-steel frame, and checkered walnut thumb-rest grips. A screw-mounted tubular reflex sight broadens its target capability while preserving the pistol’s fixed-barrel accuracy. Collectors and shooters alike will appreciate the clean bore, honest blued finish, and period-correct configuration that marked Ruger’s benchmark .22 target pistol.

Introduced in 1951, the Mark I Target variant featured Ruger’s longest factory barrel and a tuned single-action trigger. This 1960 example retains the heavy tapered 6 ⅞-inch barrel and fixed receiver design that helped establish the line’s reputation for accuracy.
The investment-cast alloy-steel frame and receiver wear a hot-salt blued finish that remains even and attractive, with only light handling marks noted. Checkered American walnut grips include a right-side thumb-rest and Ruger eagle medallions, offering both secure purchase and classic styling.
A period tubular reflex sight is mounted on a screw-attached base; the rear sight was removed to accommodate the optic. The green illuminated “+” reticle provides a clear reference point for rapid target work, while the original pinned Patridge-style front sight remains in place on its banded ramp.
Internally, the pistol operates on Ruger’s proven simple blowback action. The bright, sharp-rifled bore and crisp single-action trigger highlight the limited round count and careful maintenance this Mark I has received over the decades.
