Savage Arms Model 775A 12 Gauge Semi-Automatic Shotgun – Alloy Receiver, 19 in Barrel, Factory Engraved, Aftermarket Upgrades
This Savage Arms Model 775A combines the company’s lightweight aluminum-alloy receiver with the proven long-recoil operating system licensed from the Browning Auto-5. Produced at the Chicopee Falls plant between 1950 and 1965, this example stands out for its factory game-scene and scroll engraving, compact 19 inch steel barrel with a fixed Cylinder choke, and thoughtful aftermarket additions that improve handling and low-light usability.

The alloy receiver keeps weight down while retaining strength, making the 775A quicker to shoulder than its steel-framed contemporaries. Distinctive factory roll engraving depicting pointing dogs and flying birds, bordered by scrollwork, provides visual appeal seldom found on mid-priced American autoloaders of the era.
The shotgun operates on a long-recoil action that cycles 2 3/4 inch 12 gauge shells smoothly through a 3+1 tubular magazine. A cross-bolt safety sits conveniently behind the trigger guard, and a simple front bead sight offers a clear reference point for fast target acquisition.
The 19 inch steel barrel is fitted with a fixed Cylinder choke, giving a wide pattern well-suited to close-range applications. Inside, the bore remains clean with only minor wear, reflecting careful maintenance over the years.
An aftermarket Pachmayr ventilated recoil pad lengthens the pull to 14.25 inches and softens felt recoil, while the clamp-mounted LED flashlight on the magazine tube adds practical illumination for low-light shooting. These upgrades are easily reversible if a more traditional configuration is desired.
