Smith & Wesson M&P15A 5.56mm NATO Semi-Auto Rifle, 16" Barrel, Early “TH” Prefix
The M&P15A represents Smith & Wesson’s first-generation entry into the AR-15 market. This early “TH” prefix rifle pairs a forged 7075-T6 receiver set with a 16-inch 4140 steel barrel, giving buyers a well-built, U.S.-made carbine that stays true to the classic M4 profile while adding a flat-top upper for modern optics. Its excellent overall condition, original factory parts, and early production status make it a compelling pick for shooters and collectors alike.
Condition
Overall Condition: Excellent – shows only faint signs of prior use or handling.
Bore Condition: Excellent – clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.
Rifling Condition: Excellent – sharp lands and grooves.
Specific Condition Notes: The rifle exhibits light edge wear on high-contact points such as the magazine well and forward assist, but the Type III hard-coat anodized finish remains strong throughout.
What’s Included
- Smith & Wesson M&P15A rifle
- One Magpul PMAG 30-round polymer magazine
- Two ribbed polymer AR-15/M16 pattern 30-round magazines
- Factory A2 front sight and folding rear aperture sight installed
This carbine uses Smith & Wesson’s direct-impingement system, mirroring the military M4’s proven gas setup. The barrel’s 1:9 right-hand twist is optimized for common 55- to 69-grain 5.56 NATO loads, giving reliable accuracy across a broad range of ammunition.
The receiver set is forged and machined in-house at S&W’s Springfield, Massachusetts facility, then finished with a Type III hard-coat anodizing for corrosion resistance. The flat-top upper allows easy mounting of optics while the fixed A2 front sight and folding rear aperture permit co-witness capability.
A six-position collapsible polymer stock lets shooters tailor the 11.5-inch length of pull for comfort and quick transitions. Carbine-length polymer handguards keep weight down while providing heat protection during rapid fire, and the threaded muzzle is ready for flash hiders or muzzle devices of your choice.
Early M&P15 rifles like this one trace back to the platform’s 2006 launch, offering collectors a chance to own a first-run example that remains fully compatible with modern AR-15 accessories.
