1915 Remington Model 11 Standard Grade A 12 Gauge Semi-Auto Shotgun, 20-Inch Cylinder Bore, Takedown Design
This early-production Model 11 represents the first U.S.-made semi-automatic shotgun built on John Browning’s long-recoil system. Shipped in 1915, it remains a civilian Standard Grade A gun with plain walnut furniture, a forged-steel receiver, and the scarce “REMINGTON UMC” steel buttplate. The installed 20-inch cylinder-bore barrel makes it compact without the markings found on factory riot variants, while the included 28-inch spare barrel adds hunting versatility.
Condition
Overall Condition: Fair – Extensive signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Fair – Generally clean with some residue or smudges and slight corrosion.
Specific Condition Notes: The metal surfaces show widespread rust, pitting, scratching, and blemishing. Mechanically, the action remains functional.
What’s Included
- Spare 28-inch takedown barrel with sling swivel band (Remington Model 11, 12 ga)
Remington introduced the Model 11 in 1905, adapting Browning’s Auto-5 design for domestic production. This 1915 example carries serial number 182xxx, placing it solidly in the World War I era and making it desirable for collectors who track early American self-loading shotguns.
The shotgun retains its original long-recoil, hammerless action that feeds 2+1 rounds of 12-gauge ammunition from a two-shot tubular magazine. The forged-steel receiver and barrel are finished in period-correct bluing, while the walnut stock and forend feature a semi-pistol grip profile for straightforward handling.
A 20-inch cylinder-bore barrel is installed, giving the gun quick swing characteristics for close-range work. Because it lacks “U.S.” or police agency roll marks, it should be viewed as a standard civilian configuration rather than a factory riot model.
The takedown system lets the user swap barrels or break the shotgun down for transport without tools. The included 28-inch spare barrel broadens the gun’s usefulness, making it suitable for field shooting as well as collection display.
