Product Description

Savage Model 1899H Featherweight Takedown .22 Savage Hi-Power Lever Action Rifle – 1919 Production, Rare Caliber, Vintage Scope

Built in 1919, this Savage Model 1899H Featherweight Takedown is one of the scarce examples chambered in .22 Savage Hi-Power. Produced only from 1912 to 1919, these hammerless lever-actions combine a light 6¾-pound frame, rotary five-shot magazine with brass counter, and quick takedown barrel system. This rifle retains its period charcoal blue finish and comes fitted with an aftermarket vintage telescopic sight, adding practical utility to an already collectible platform.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Fair – Extensive signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Good – Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks; rifling remains well-defined.
Specific Condition Notes: Metal surfaces remain in good shape with scattered scratches on the right side of the receiver. The walnut stock shows a chipped area and a significant crack behind the rear tang. Previous side-mount scope holes have been plugged; current scope mount is aftermarket drill-and-tap. Mechanically, the action cycles and functions properly.

    What’s Included

    • Savage Model 1899H Featherweight Takedown rifle
    • Vintage riflescope installed in two-piece offset mounts

This H-series Featherweight stands out for its takedown system. A simple half-turn separates the 20-inch tapered Hi-Pressure Steel barrel from the receiver, making transport and maintenance straightforward without disturbing the sights or magazine.

The .22 Savage Hi-Power chambering is limited to Model 1899 rifles built before the transition to the Model 99 designation, giving this example added rarity. Fewer than eight years of production in this caliber make surviving specimens desirable among Savage collectors.

The hammerless lever action retains the signature rotary magazine with a brass-face cartridge counter, allowing instant visual confirmation of the five-round capacity. The folding rear leaf and barrel-band front sight remain intact, complementing the period scope for dual sighting options.

Featherweight construction keeps weight around 6¾ pounds, aided by the slim straight-grip walnut stock. Combined with the compact 20-inch barrel, this rifle offers quick handling while preserving the strong carbon-steel receiver favored by early 20th-century shooters.
