Winchester Model 42 Standard Grade .410 Bore Pump-Action Shotgun, 26-Inch Modified Choke, mfg 1955
Built in 1955, this Winchester Model 42 Standard Grade represents the first pump shotgun specifically engineered for 3-inch .410 shells. Matching serial numbers on the receiver and barrel extension confirm its original pairing, while classic pre-1964 features—18-groove fore-end, steel buttplate, and take-down design—add period authenticity that appeals to shooters and collectors alike.
Condition
Overall Condition: Fair condition, showing extensive signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Excellent – Clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.
There is noticeable pitting and finish wear on exterior metal surfaces. The walnut stock has a chip just behind the receiver and can rotate slightly because it is loose, which likely caused the chip. Mechanically, the shotgun cycles, feeds, and ejects properly.

- Winchester Model 42 Standard Grade pump-action shotgun
Manufactured during the peak production years, this 26-inch plain-barrel Model 42 features Winchester Proof Steel and a factory-fixed Modified choke—an uncommon combination that broadens its versatility for small-game hunting and clay targets.
The shotgun retains its original blued finish on the carbon-steel receiver and barrel. Winchester “WP” oval proofmarks remain clear and legible, underscoring its factory authenticity.
An American walnut semi-pistol-grip stock with finger-fluted wrist pairs with a ribbed walnut slide handle for a classic Winchester feel. At 13.75 inches, the length of pull stays true to factory dimensions.
With only about 160,000 Model 42s produced from 1933 to 1963, examples chambered for 3-inch shells and retaining matching numbers are increasingly sought after. This take-down variant also simplifies transport and maintenance, adding practical value to its collectible appeal.
