Beissel & Winiecki Posen 16 Gauge Boxlock Side-by-Side Shotgun, WWI-Era German Guild Gun with Full Chokes
This Beissel & Winiecki Posen boxlock side-by-side was built in Germany between 1903 and 1918 and carries early nitro proofs from Suhl. Chambered in 16 gauge with 2.75-inch chambers—unusual for its time—it combines J. Achter’s patented barrel jointing system with a sleek Anson & Deeley extractor action. Light scroll engraving on the color-case-hardened receiver underscores its guild-gun pedigree.

What’s Included
- Beissel & Winiecki Posen 16 Gauge boxlock side-by-side shotgun (serial number 186311)
Crafted while Beissel & Winiecki operated in Posen, this shotgun represents a scarce example of their work; few of the firm’s guns survive, and even fewer retain 70 mm chambers. Crown-over-U, Crown-over-W, and oval PV stamps confirm compliance with the 1891–1912 German proof law for nitro powders.
The 28-inch steel barrels are fixed at Full choke in both tubes, giving dense patterns ideal for longer-range wing shooting. A solid matted rib with a brass front bead and an under-rib sling swivel eye complete the top line.
The steel receiver wears a muted color-case-hardened finish accented by factory light scroll engraving on the fences and trigger guard. Twin triggers and a manual tang safety provide familiar, reliable controls.
Walnut furniture features a semi-pistol grip with a right-hand cheek-piece, fine hand checkering, sling swivel studs, and a slim splinter forend with schnabel tip—hallmarks of German guild craftsmanship aimed at balanced handling.
