Colt Woodsman Target Model Second Series .22 LR Pistol, 6-Inch Tapered Barrel, 1950 Manufacture
This Second-Series Colt Woodsman Target Model, manufactured in 1950, combines John Browning’s straight-blowback design with early post-war features collectors look for. A 6-inch tapered barrel, polished blue finish, and Coltmaster micrometer sights make it a precise rimfire pistol, while the push-button magazine release and brown Coltwood grips mark it as an early Second-Series example.

Serial number 54569-S places this pistol early in Second-Series production, aligning with Colt records for 1950. The series introduced the convenient push-button magazine release and retained the straight-blowback, single-action system that made the Woodsman a preferred target pistol.
The 6-inch carbon-steel barrel tapers elegantly toward the muzzle, balancing the pistol and providing a long sight radius. Combined with the fully adjustable Coltmaster rear sight and dovetailed blade front, it delivers precise elevation and windage adjustments for rimfire target work.
Polished blued steel covers both frame and slide, complemented by rear forward-raked cocking serrations. Brown marbled Coltwood grips—used only from 1947 to 1950—feature rampant-Colt medallions and checkering on the lower two-thirds, offering period-correct texture and style.
Internally, the smooth-face single-action trigger and robust straight-blowback action provide the crisp break and reliable cycling that helped secure the Woodsman’s reputation on the firing line.
