Savage Model 99F Featherweight .308 Win. Lever-Action Rifle (1956 Chicopee Falls) – Repaired, Forend Slightly Loose
Built in 1956 at Savage’s Chicopee Falls plant, this Model 99F Featherweight pairs the classic hammerless lever-action design with an early .308 Winchester chambering and a slim 22-inch barrel that keeps overall weight around 6.75 pounds. A factory-drilled receiver, internal rotary magazine with cartridge counter, and straight-grip walnut stock make this rifle a notable, collector-worthy example of the Model 99 line.

What’s Included
- Savage Model 99F Featherweight .308 Win. lever-action rifle with factory iron sights
Introduced in 1955, the Model 99F Featherweight trimmed barrel and receiver dimensions to deliver a lively 6.75-pound hunting rifle without sacrificing the strong, hammerless action the Model 99 is known for.
This example carries serial number 915xxx, dating it to 1956. It bears the circled “SP” Chicopee Falls proof and retains its factory-drilled and tapped receiver, ready for scope bases if desired.
The 22-inch slim-profile barrel is chambered in .308 Winchester—one of the earliest Model 99s so chambered—allowing shooters to take advantage of modern spitzer bullets that feed reliably from the rotary magazine.
A straight-grip, checkered walnut stock with sling-swivel studs contributes to the rifle’s balance. Sight equipment includes a ramped gold-bead front and an elevator-adjustable rear leaf, offering a clear sight picture for quick shots.
The internal 5-round magazine features Savage’s distinctive cartridge counter visible on the receiver’s left side, giving the shooter an at-a-glance round count without opening the action.
