H&R M1 Garand .30-06 Semi-Automatic Rifle – 1953 CMP Documented, Parkerized Finish, Walnut Stock
Made in January 1953 during Harrington & Richardson’s first M1 Garand contract run, this rifle represents one of roughly 140,000 H&R-produced Garands—the smallest prime-contractor quantity in the program. Its CMP documentation, early-block serial number 4,72x,xxx, and excellent overall preservation make it an appealing choice for collectors who value verified provenance and original U.S. military configuration.

Harrington & Richardson received its first M1 contract in 1952, and this rifle’s serial number falls squarely within that initial block (4,660,001–4,800,000). As such, it is among the earliest H&R Garands accepted by U.S. Ordnance.
The receiver and 24-inch barrel are forged carbon steel with a uniform parkerized matte gray finish. The rifle retains its original walnut stock set, full-length handguard, and U.S. pattern iron sights—wing-protected front blade and adjustable rear aperture.
A Springfield Armory replacement bolt (D6528287-SA A14) reflects typical U.S. arsenal rebuild practice, yet all components remain correct for service-grade configuration. The gas-operated action feeds from the standard 8-round en-bloc clip, and length of pull measures 13.0 inches.
This example comes directly from Civilian Marksmanship Program release, adding documented provenance to its already strong collector appeal.
