Product Description

Marlin Model 1895G Guide Gun .45-70 Govt., Ported JM-Stamped, 2001 North Haven Production

This Marlin Model 1895G Guide Gun pairs the power of the .45-70 Government cartridge with rare, early-run features collectors look for. Built in Marlin’s North Haven, Connecticut plant in 2001 and bearing the desirable JM proof stamp, it sports the factory-ported 18.5-inch barrel produced only from 1998 to 2002. A receiver-mounted ghost-ring sight upgrade, straight-grip walnut furniture, and Ballard-style rifling round out a hard-hitting, fast-handling lever gun that remains tough to find in clean, original condition.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.

Bore Condition: Good - Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.

Bore Rifling: Good Rifling - Intact, well-defined lands and grooves.

Specific Condition Notes: The blued metal retains sound coverage with scattered scratches and blemishes. Light patches of rust and pitting are present but remain superficial. The bore is bright and shiny.

    What’s Included

    • Marlin Model 1895G Guide Gun rifle
    • Receiver-mounted aperture ghost-ring rear sight (installed)

The factory muzzle ports immediately identify this rifle as an early Guide Gun. Marlin discontinued porting after 2002, making these JM-stamped examples increasingly sought after by shooters and collectors alike.

Its 18.5-inch barrel, six-groove Ballard-style rifling, and 4+1 tubular magazine combine to deliver stout .45-70 performance in a compact, quick-cycling package. Porting helps tame recoil and muzzle rise, supporting rapid follow-up shots in the field.

Walnut furniture with cut checkering, a straight grip, and a ventilated recoil pad give the rifle a classic look while keeping handling secure under heavy recoil. Sling swivel studs come installed for easy carry options.

The steel receiver sports a matte blue-black finish, is drilled and tapped from the factory, and now wears a robust ghost-ring rear sight for fast target acquisition. A brass-bead ramp front sight and adjustable semi-buckhorn rear remain in place, offering multiple sighting choices.

Produced in Marlin’s original North Haven facility and marked with the JM proof, this 2001 Guide Gun represents a well-kept, collectible iteration of a lever-action staple—ready for the range, the woods, or the collection cabinet.
