High Standard Sentinel MK IV .22 WMR 4" 9-Shot Revolver – Blued Steel, Walnut Grips, 1970s Production
This steel-framed Sentinel MK IV stands out as High Standard’s first all-carbon-steel variant of the popular nine-shot rimfire revolver. Chambered in .22 WMR and built in the mid-1970s, it combines a polished blued finish with checkered walnut grips, an underlugged 4-inch barrel, and an adjustable rear sight—features that set it apart from earlier alloy-framed models. The “S” serial prefix confirms its steel construction, making it notable for both shooters and collectors.

The MK IV series introduced a carbon-steel frame to the Sentinel line, giving this revolver added durability and a more substantial feel compared with earlier alloy versions. The “S” prefix on the serial number was unique to these steel models produced from 1974 through the early 1980s.
Its 4-inch carbon-steel barrel carries an integral underlug that adds forward weight for steadier off-hand shooting. A serrated ramp front sight is paired with a fully adjustable square-notch rear blade, allowing precise zeroing with .22 WMR loads.
The cylinder holds nine rounds and is recessed for additional strength around the cartridge rims. A push-forward ejector-rod release speeds reloads while keeping the frame sleek.
Externally, the polished blued finish contrasts with attractive two-piece walnut grips featuring sharp checkering for a confident hold. An exposed-spur hammer supports both single-action accuracy work and smooth double-action cycles.
