Produced in 1953–1954, this rifle represents H&R’s initial contract run, identifiable by its early-block serial range and boxed DOD eagle cartouche. These first-block guns were built to meet Korean War demand yet benefited from post-war refinements in receiver machining and parkerizing.
The forged steel receiver and 24-inch U.S.-GI barrel wear a uniform manganese parkerized finish that pairs well with the oil-finished walnut stock and matching two-piece handguard. The stock retains its crisp pistol-grip profile and military proof marks, underscoring its originality.
Sight settings remain fully functional, featuring the locking-bar aperture rear sight adjustable for windage and elevation and a hooded front blade with protective ears. The gas-operated, rotating-bolt action cycles eight-round en-bloc clips reliably, as expected of a CMP-inspected Garand.
Walnut furniture is structurally solid with only superficial handling marks, preserving the rifle’s classic service-grade appearance. Metal components present even parkerizing, free from corrosion, and the bore offers strong rifling for continued range use.
