WM Parkhurst “Machine Made” 12 Gauge External Hammer Side-by-Side Shotgun – 30" Barrels, Fixed IC Chokes
Built in Birmingham in the late 1890s, this WM Parkhurst “Machine Made” side-by-side represents an early factory-produced British hammer shotgun imported to the United States by Schoverling, Daly & Gales. It combines external hammers, double triggers, and fixed Improved Cylinder chokes with Victorian-era proof marks, offering collectors a clear link to the transition from handmade to machine-assisted gunmaking.

What’s Included
- Original walnut splinter fore-end (detached)

This full-size 12 gauge uses a break-action design with sturdy steel barrels measuring 30". Both tubes are factory-fixed at Improved Cylinder, making the gun well-suited for close to medium-range patterning typical of the period.
The gun retains its solid concave rib and brass bead front sight. Crowned BV and BP proofs, along with the diamond 12 gauge mark, confirm Birmingham Proof House certification, while the “Machine Made” legend on the rib underscores its place in early industrial production.
External hammers paired with double triggers give the shooter independent control of each barrel. The steel frame and receiver are matched to a straight-grip walnut stock and slim splinter fore-end, with a 13.5" length of pull for a classic, quick-handling feel.
Imported under the Parkhurst trade name, these shotguns provided American sportsmen with an affordable British alternative at the turn of the century. Surviving examples like this one offer tangible insight into late Victorian sporting arms and the evolution of factory gunmaking.
