Remington Model 31 16 Gauge Pump Shotgun, 26" Ventilated Rib Barrel, Late-Production 1940s
Remington’s Model 31 earned its reputation for an exceptionally smooth, “ball-bearing” pump action, and this late-production 16 gauge example adds the rarity of a factory ventilated rib barrel. Built in the 1940s within the 500,000-575,000 serial block, it combines polished blued steel with walnut furniture and features an aftermarket rubber recoil pad for added comfort.

What’s Included
- Remington Model 31 16 gauge pump-action shotgun with 26" ventilated rib barrel
- Aftermarket black rubber recoil pad (installed)
The Model 31 was Remington’s premium pump gun before the introduction of the Model 870. Its twin-bearing action bars and precision machining give it a notably slick stroke that many shooters still praise.
This shotgun’s 26-inch carbon-steel barrel wears a ventilated rib—a less common factory option compared to the plain barrel—topped by a single brass bead for a clear sight picture. The 2 ¾-inch chamber handles most standard 16 gauge loads, and the four-round tubular magazine keeps the design light and well-balanced.
The receiver and barrel retain their polished blued finish, while the walnut stock and semi-beavertail forend provide classic Remington styling. The side-eject layout keeps the top of the receiver clear for easy loading and unobstructed sight lines.
An aftermarket black rubber recoil pad has been fitted, shortening felt recoil without altering the gun’s original lines. All factory markings remain crisp, highlighting its vintage appeal for collectors and shooters alike.
