Smith & Wesson Model 64-5 .38 Special Revolver – 4" Heavy Barrel, Stainless, Mid-1980s
This Smith & Wesson Model 64-5 is a K-Frame, six-shot service revolver built in the United States during the mid-1980s. The heavy 4-inch stainless barrel with full-length ejector-rod shroud gives the gun solid balance and quick follow-up capability, while a brushed satin finish resists holster wear. An after-market set of Pachmayr “Gripper” stocks provides a secure, finger-grooved hold, making this stainless .38 Special both practical and collectible.

The 64-5 engineering change, introduced in 1988, brought a revised yoke retention system and floating hand for smoother, more reliable lock-up. This revolver retains those upgrades along with pre-MIM forged internals and no internal key lock, characteristics many enthusiasts seek out for durability and traditional feel.
The heavy, full-shroud 4-inch barrel keeps muzzle rise to a minimum and places extra weight out front for steady sight tracking. Fixed duty sights consist of a serrated ramp front blade paired with a square-notch rear milled into the top strap—simple, snag-free, and built for hard use.
The brushed satin stainless frame, cylinder, and barrel fight corrosion and simplify maintenance, an advantage for both carry and range use. A smooth combat-style trigger offers consistent press in either double-action or single-action modes, making controlled rapid fire on the K-Frame platform straightforward.
An integral lanyard slot on the grip butt and the serial prefix “BRY” mark its service-grade roots. Combined with the aftermarket Pachmayr stocks, this Model 64-5 delivers a comfortable, recoil-taming grip without straying from its classic lines.
