Springfield Armory Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen Infantry Rifle, .30-40 Krag, 22-Inch Barrel
Produced during fiscal year 1899, this Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen represents the final infantry version of America’s unique, side-loading Krag service rifle. Serial 2154XX places it within the last full year of Krag production before the adoption of the M1903, giving the rifle added historical interest for collectors. Its smooth-cycling single-lug bolt, hinged magazine door, and classic walnut stock with grasping grooves showcase the defining features of the U.S. Krag design.

- Springfield Armory Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen Infantry Rifle
The Krag’s distinctive side-loading magazine holds five rounds of .30-40 Krag and allows topping up without opening the bolt—an innovative feature for its era.
A milled steel receiver finished in period-correct rust-blue anchors the action, paired with a 22-inch barrel that maintains the rifle’s well-known balance and handling.
The full-length walnut stock, complete with grasping grooves, retains an original block “B” inspector stamp and a 13.5-inch length of pull, underscoring its military provenance.
Collectible status is enhanced by the rifle’s position as the last standardized Krag infantry model adopted by the U.S. Army, bridging the technological shift from single-column magazine rifles to charger-fed designs.
