Product Description

    Winchester Model 60A Sporter .22 LR Bolt-Action Single-Shot Rifle, Early 23" Barrel (1932–1933)

This Winchester Model 60A Sporter is an early production example of the company’s classic single-shot .22 LR bolt-action rifle. Produced between 1932 and 1933, this variant features the desirable 23-inch barrel and was part of a limited run of approximately 6,100 rifles. It retains its original blued steel finish and walnut stock, and—typical of pre-1968 manufacture—carries no serial number. A manually-cocked striker knob, quick-release takedown screw, and open sights round out a package prized by collectors seeking early Winchester rimfire models.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Fair condition, showing extensive signs of prior use and handling.
Specific Condition Notes: Rifle is in functional shape. Rust and pitting are present across metal surfaces, along with widespread blemishing and scratches on the stock and finish. The bore remains clean.
Bore Condition: Good – Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.
Bore Rifling: Good Rifling – Intact, well-defined lands and grooves.

    What's Included

    • Winchester Model 60A Sporter single-shot rifle

The Model 60A evolved from Winchester’s earlier Model 60, adding a thicker barrel profile and improved Sporter-style walnut stock. This example retains the original plain blade front sight set in a dovetail and a buckhorn rear sight with elevator, giving shooters flexible elevation adjustment without altering the rifle’s classic profile.

The manually-cocked striker knob at the bolt’s rear serves as both a cocking mechanism and a visual cocking indicator, a design that simplifies operation and adds a layer of safety awareness.

Disassembly for cleaning or transport is straightforward thanks to a single large takedown screw in the stock. Loosening this screw separates the barreled action from the stock, a convenience seldom found on modern rimfire rifles.

Collectors value this early 23-inch barrel version for its short production window and limited numbers. The absence of a serial number, standard for firearms made before the 1968 Gun Control Act, further authenticates its period of manufacture.
