Marlin Model 1897 Semi-Deluxe Takedown .22 LR Lever-Action Rifle, 24" Octagon Barrel (1899 Production)
Built in 1899, this early Marlin Model 1897 Semi-Deluxe Takedown offers a rare mix of factory takedown engineering, finely checkered walnut furniture, and period-correct color-case-hardened steel. With its 24-inch octagon barrel, full-length 19-round magazine, and dual sighting system, it reflects the craftsmanship that made Marlin’s turn-of-the-century rimfires so desirable to shooters and collectors alike.

What’s Included
- Marlin Model 1897 Semi-Deluxe Takedown .22 LR lever-action rifle (serial number 189390)
The factory takedown mechanism lets the shooter separate the barrel/magazine assembly from the receiver in seconds, making the rifle easier to transport and clean. Alignment and lock-up remain solid, maintaining proper sight zero after reassembly.
This Semi-Deluxe configuration upgrades the standard Model 1897 with hand-cut checkering on the straight-grip walnut stock and fore-end, plus a steel shotgun buttplate. The wood retains crisp checkering that still offers secure purchase.
The 24" octagon barrel is marked with Marlin’s 1887–1892 patent dates and topped with a dovetailed blade front sight and elevation-adjustable buckhorn rear. A tang-mounted vernier aperture sight provides a longer sight radius for precise rimfire shooting.
Both the receiver and lever display original case-hardened finishes, while the barrel and magazine tube wear Marlin’s deep period bluing. The “MARLIN SAFETY” roll mark sits cleanly on the receiver top, confirming correct early production features within the first three years of Model 1897 manufacture.
