What’s Included
- Remington Sportsman 48 16 Gauge semi-automatic shotgun
Introduced as the 3-shot companion to Remington’s Model 11-48, the Sportsman 48 retains the same long-recoil system patented under US 2,278,589 by designer L. Ray Crittendon. That pedigree delivers smooth cycling and reliable function with standard 2 3/4-inch 16-gauge loads.
Production of 16-gauge Sportsman variants was comparatively limited, making this 1953 example a desirable find for gauge enthusiasts. The carbon-steel receiver and barrel wear their original blued finish, complemented by checkered walnut furniture that keeps the gun light and well balanced.
The 28-inch plain barrel carries a modified choke, offering a versatile pattern for upland birds and small game. A brass bead front sight gives a crisp reference without adding weight.
Controls are familiar and straightforward: a cross-bolt safety at the rear of the trigger guard and an internal two-round magazine, giving the classic 2+1 capacity mandated for the Sportsman line.
Practical upgrades are minimal—only the replacement recoil pad—preserving the shotgun’s original lines while slightly softening felt recoil and providing a comfortable 14-inch length of pull.
