Marlin Model 1895XLR .45-70 Gov’t Lever-Action Rifle, 24" Stainless/Laminate
Built in North Haven in 2006, this Marlin 1895XLR pairs weather-resistant stainless steel with a laminated hardwood stock, giving hunters and collectors a hard-hitting .45-70 that shrugs off rough conditions. A 24-inch barrel with Ballard-style rifling squeezes every bit of velocity from modern loads, while the receiver comes drilled and tapped for easy optic installation.

The XLR series ran from 2005 to 2010 and quickly gained a reputation for its stainless/laminate construction. This example’s 416 stainless receiver, barrel, and action parts resist corrosion, making it well-suited for backcountry hunts in wet climates.
Marlin gave the 24" barrel a 1:20 twist and six-groove Ballard-style rifling, ideal for stabilizing the wide range of bullet weights available in .45-70 Gov’t. The longer tube also delivers higher velocities than the 18" or 22" variants, providing flatter trajectories and more energy downrange.
The grey/black laminated hardwood stock offers strength without the swelling issues of traditional walnut. Checkering on the pistol grip and fore-end ensures a solid grasp, while a factory recoil pad tames the stout .45-70 kick.
Sights consist of a hooded ramp front and an adjustable semi-buckhorn rear—classic, durable choices for quick target acquisition. A cross-bolt safety adds a modern layer of security without compromising traditional lever-gun handling.
