Mossberg Model 46 .22 LR Bolt-Action Rifle | 24" Barrel, 15-Shot Tube, 1935-37 Production
This original Mossberg Model 46 is a scarce, early-production .22 LR bolt gun built in New Haven, Connecticut between 1935 and 1937—only three model years. It predates the later 46B and 46M variants, carries no serial number as produced, and features tool-less takedown through a single knurled screw. A 24-inch blued barrel, 15-round tubular magazine, and well-figured walnut stock make it a desirable piece for collectors of pre-war American rimfires.

What’s Included
- Mossberg Model 46 .22 LR bolt-action rifle
Produced for only three years, the Model 46 represents Mossberg’s first generation of full-size sporting rifles. Its polished blue finish over blued steel components and matching walnut stock give it the classic pre-war look that later models emulate.
The rifle chambers .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle interchangeably from a 15-round under-barrel tubular magazine, making it versatile for plinking or small-game use. Loading is straightforward and the controlled-feed bolt cycles smoothly despite its age.
Sights are traditional iron: a dovetailed blade up front and an elevation-adjustable folding leaf rear. Together they provide a clear sight picture without obscuring the barrel’s clean lines.
A standout feature is the large knurled takedown screw at the front of the trigger guard, allowing quick, tool-less separation of the barreled action from the stock for transport or maintenance.
With its 13.5" length of pull, manageable weight, and simple manual of arms, the Model 46 remains a practical shooter while also holding appeal as a rare, early Mossberg collectible.
