Ruger Security-Six 150 Series Low-Back .357 Magnum Revolver, 4-Inch Barrel, Blued, 1974 Production
This early 150-prefix Security-Six represents Ruger’s first generation of double-action revolvers. Built in 1974 on the desirable low-back frame, it offers a robust solid-frame design, transfer-bar safety that allows all six chambers to be carried loaded, and a 4-inch barrel with a half-length ejector-rod shroud. Adjustable iron sights and checkered walnut grips round out a package that became a staple for U.S. law-enforcement agencies in the 1970s.

The 150 Series low-back frame was produced only from 1972 to 1974, making this example part of the first ~100,000 Security-Six revolvers ever built. Collectors prize this early pattern for its slimmer grip profile and historical significance in Ruger’s lineup.
Ruger engineered the Security-Six with a one-piece solid frame—eliminating the side plate common to other designs—resulting in a strong, easily serviceable revolver. Field-stripping requires nothing more than a screwdriver to remove the grips.
The revolver’s transfer-bar safety system lets the shooter safely carry six rounds, a key advantage for duty use in its era. Paired with the exposed hammer, it supports both double-action and single-action fire.
A 4-inch steel barrel balances recoil control and carry convenience, while the half-length ejector-rod shroud adds weight up front without the bulk of full-length housings. The blued finish complements the checkered walnut grip panels, giving the gun a classic 1970s service look.
Fully adjustable iron sights—a pinned, ramped front blade and a square-notch rear—provide a clear, precise sight picture for both .357 Magnum and .38 Special loads.
