A.H. Fox Sterlingworth 16 Gauge Side-by-Side Shotgun | 1928 Philadelphia Production, 26-Inch Fluid Compressed Steel Barrels
Built in 1928 at the Philadelphia factory, this A.H. Fox Sterlingworth pairs classic American shotgun craftsmanship with features that collectors look for. The forged steel box-lock action uses the Fox rotary-bolt cross-locking system, and the 26-inch Sterlingworth Fluid Compressed Steel barrels retain their solid matted top rib. Chambered in 16 gauge, this pre-Savage example offers double triggers, an extractor setup, and the original color-case-hardened finish on the frame.

What’s Included
- A.H. Fox Sterlingworth 16 Gauge side-by-side shotgun
This shotgun is a Philadelphia-made Sterlingworth, produced before A.H. Fox was acquired by Savage Arms. Collectors prize these earlier guns for their fit, finish, and the patented rotary-bolt cross-lock that keeps the action tight even after years of use.
The 26-inch barrels are roll-stamped “Sterlingworth Fluid Compressed Steel” and topped with a solid matted rib that ends in a brass front bead. The likely original 2 9/16-inch chambers, paired with 16 gauge versatility, make this a classic upland configuration.
The forged steel receiver retains traces of its original color-case-hardening, while the blued barrels present a naturally aged appearance consistent with the gun’s working life. Double triggers allow true barrel-selection control, and the manual tang safety is intuitive for field carry.
Its walnut pistol-grip stock features hand-cut checkering and an oil finish. Although the stock shows visible wear and damage, the 14-inch length of pull remains intact, preserving shootability for those who wish to keep it in the field.
