Springfield Armory manufactured approximately 20,000 Model 1884 carbines, and this example, serial number 381771, falls within the late-1887 production run. As an antique (pre-1899), it can transfer without a modern FFL in most jurisdictions, adding convenience for qualified buyers.
The 22-inch barrel carries the correct V/P/eagle/P A proof sequence, confirming U.S. military acceptance. A single barrel band, saddle-ring bar, and trapdoor buttplate underscore its mounted-troop heritage.
The Buffington windage-adjustable ladder rear sight offers precise elevation and windage control, while a pinned blade front sight provides a clear, rugged aiming point. Together, they represent the final evolution of the trapdoor sight system.
The oil-finished walnut stock features a straight grip and retains solid fit. An external spur hammer and single-shot trapdoor breech complete the classic mechanical layout that served American cavalry forces in the late 19th century.
